Lange

Ranked 31 in the world (2009 DJ Mag Top 100 Poll), Lange is recognised as one of the most influential dance artists of the past decade. A DJ who has remained at the forefront of the scene throughout his career and a producer that continues to push all boundaries.

After an exhausting list of achievements, counting among them 20 UK top 40s, featuring on a film soundtrack, and remixing mainstream artists such as the Pet Shop Boys, Lange remains one of the leading EDM producers. His modern day anthem “Out of the Sky” catapulted to the top of the trance charts, making him one of the top selling trance artists in 2008 and it still remains a ‘never fails’ track for djs and clubbers alike.

Alongside Lange’s exceptional and successful studio work, he is a prolific international DJ with weekly jaunts around the world, making appearances for some of the best club brands in the world as well as performing for prestigious festivals such as such Creamfields, and the Zurich Street Parade. His eclectic, stimulating and driving sets pull influences from across the dance music spectrum from, trance, progressive, techno and electro; he is an exciting and lively performer that keeps the crowd buzzing for more.

Lange is one name in trance that has continued to reinvent himself to take on the evolving dance scene and show any inspiring new comer how to be an industry leader through pure talent alone. After climbing the Top 100 Dj Poll for the 5th year in a row and the launch of his second artist album ‘Harmonic Motion,’ he looks only set to dominate further.

Q&A with Lange

Can you tell us a bit about the type of music you play?
I play driving grooved electro-edged Trance.

What can you tell the Cream clubbers about what you have in store to entice them to the Island this year?
With the new artist album just about to be released I have a load of new tracks in the CD wallet itching to be played! With Ferry on the bill too it’s going to be a rocking night.

You jet around the globe all year, what advice could you give our clubbers to survive a weekend on the island?
Just enjoy it, you only live once don’t you? …just don’t fall asleep in the sun!

You’ve got a new album, Harmonic Motion out now. Can you tell us about it?
It’s my 2nd artist album and features some great vocalists such as Emma Hewitt, Sarah Howells and Betsie Larkin. There’s plenty of influences in there from other genres with tinges of 80s/classical/downtempo/indie rock alongside my more typical Electro/techno-edged Trancers. Check out the minisite at www.djlange.com I think my designers did a great job on it.

What’s your favourite dance track ever?
Always a difficult one – I have about 50 i always want to mention. OK, ‘Push – Strange World’ – one of the best dark trancers from the good old days of the late 90s.

What DJ did you aspire to be when you were starting out? Have you met them? How did it feel when you first met them?
I didn’t originally aspire to be a DJ, I was very much a producer first, but I have much respect for Judge Jules and he was a key supporter of my mixes in the early days (and still is!) It was great to meet him.

How do you go about choosing the names for your tracks / albums?
I don’t like giving anything a random title, I have to hear something in the track to spark its name, no matter how lame the connection.

What djs/artistes are inspiring you at the moment?
Really liking the sounds of some of the new guys coming through such as Marcus Schossow, Mat Zo, Steve Brian, Ashley Wallbridge, Tydi etc.

What is your favourite thing about Ibiza?
I’ve been visiting the island for over 10 years; it’s a very special place. Not only is it a great clubbing destination, it’s a very beautiful island too.

Will you get to see much of the island?
Yeah, i’m having a couple of days out there around the Cream date, couldn’t resist extending this visit.

Whose set are you most looking forward to seeing at Cream Ibiza?
I’m looking forward to the whole night!

What track makes you think of Ibiza?
Actually my ‘Follow Me’ track from 2000 does. It was in that great British film: Kevin & Perry Go Large! In fact all the music in that film does such as Yomanda Synth and Strings etc. It captured that moment in Ibiza perfectly.

What is your all time favourite album?
It’s a popular choice but hasn’t been beaten yet for me. Leftfield – Leftism.

What do you do to switch off from work?
I don’t think I ever switch off.

Finish this sentence: Cream Ibiza is…..?
‘avin it Large!?!
